Rescue Story
Stanley came to GEARS as an owner surrender and is ready to find his forever home
My Bio
Hello everyone, my name is Stanley! I can be very active, but I also really love taking long naps beside my humans. There is nothing more that I love than food and I will listen if treats are involved! I love car rides and butt scritchies.
I usually only like short walks because I love to stop and smell everything. I am very loyal and will do anything to protect my humans. I can be anxious and when I am anxious, I start pacing around the house. I also bark when I hear noises or another dog, but I stop when my humans let me know that
everything is okay.
I sleep soundly throughout the night and do not need to be crated overnight. I do not mind sleeping in my crate but I would prefer to sleep around my human so I don’t feel too lonely. I sometimes struggle with boundaries but I have been working on it!
I know sit/stay, down, shake a paw (both paws) and will listen to verbal commands. I am working on understanding hand signals (aren’t I smart??).
I love playing fetch and keep away with my ball and toys. Tug of war is another fav of mine. Cold weather bothers my paws a little bit but other than that, I love snow. I would really love a backyard to play in.
In my previous foster home, I was living with other dogs and had no issues with it. I currently live with 2 cats. They are weird, I don’t really understand them. I want to play with them. but they don’t want to play with me!
I am a loving and loyal boy who loves attention and who is looking forward to find my furever home.
Behaviour note: Stanley is a resource guarder and can be protective of his spaces. He loves meeting new people and dogs but not from his backyard. He is very protective of his yard and does not like strangers to come in it. A meet and greet in the front yard or the street is ideal and preferred. After the meet and greet he usually does not have a problem letting people come into the house or his yard. He can also be protective of his bones but only to other animal and not humans. Stanley does have a multiple bite history due to improper management of his resource guarding.
Medical notes: Stanley takes 2 different medications everyday once a day, one for anxiousness and the other for allergies. Stanley also had leg surgery on both rear legs and he is partially blind in his right eye, but can see motion.
