Rescue Story

Phoebe came to GEARS as a surrender and is ready to find her forever home

My Bio

Hi, I’m Phoebe! I’m a really shy girl until I get to know you, and then I want to be everywhere you are! My foster parent says that I am the sweetest girl who is still learning how to be a dog (I still won’t climb on the couch or bed despite being invited). I love my foster siblings so much and would prefer another dog in the home to help me learn that life isn’t so scary (I love my foster sister Hayley, who is also a doggo, and I squeal with excitement every time I see her). I am extremely smart and currently live on an acreage which has helped me to have great recall. I love to be outside as often as I can.

I don’t like car rides as I tend to get car sick, but if I am in my crate in the car it’s less scary and I don’t throw up.

My foster home has two kitties and I am SO curious about them. I like to chase them thinking it’s a big game, but I am slowly learning that this is only fun for me. I would do best in a home without kitties or with someone who has experience with this.

I’m house trained but not crate trained. I prefer to sleep on a bed and not locked up (please🙏). I LOVE food and I am still learning that food will come at regular intervals and that I don’t need to swallow it in one bite. Because of this, my training has been very successful with treats.

I’m a bit standoffish with new dogs but I’ve become friends with all my house mates!  I really like bigger dogs or dogs that are a similar size to me. Smaller dogs are not my favourite and I like to show them I am the boss.

Do I sound like the right doggo for you??

Love, Pheebs ♥️

Behaviour note: Phoebe is a fearful dog who will need ongoing confidence boosting in her forever home. She acclimates well to new dogs but can be guarded at first. She will back down if another dog challenges her – unless it is a smaller dog.

Medical note: Phoebe had a surgery to repair an umbilical hernia. Because of the location it is something that could reoccur in the future if she engages in strenuous activities.
