Hello! My name is
Llokie
Rescue Story
Llokie was born in GEARS’ care and was adopted but returned due to no fault of his own, and is now ready to find his true furever home!
My Bio
Hello friends!
I’m Llokie! I’m a floofy goofball looking for my forever family! I love taking long walks, especially when there are other dogs to run with and water to splash in! My favourite part of the water is the mud to step in, I love wearing mud socks (hee hee)!
I also love wrestling with my cat foster brother. I’m very gentle and know not to hurt him, but I will steal his food if I have the chance! My dog foster sister helps keep me calm in new situations and shows me that strangers don’t have to be scary.
When I first came to live here, I was VERY scared of strangers and would bark at them to leave me alone! I’ve worked really hard on that by slowly getting used to strangers in neutral places like the dog park or the walking trails in my neighbourhood. I take my pills before supper for my anxiety and that helps a lot. I still don’t like strangers in my home, but I will happily let most of the people at the park pet me! It took me some time and slow introductions but I’ve gotten to know several aunties and they are so proud when I sprint to greet them at the park. My favourite strangers are the ones who hand out cups of whipped cream through the window!
Most of the time I sleep in my kennel with the door open, or on my mat in the corner. I like to be wherever my people are, so I’ll stay up with whoever goes to bed the latest! I love sleeping nearby when my foster moms work from home, but do okay when they have to go to “the office” all day. During the day I sit on my favourite stair where I can keep an eye on the whole house. I go to the backdoor to let my people know I want to go out.
My foster moms say I’m a little quirky. But I don’t think that picking one mom to be the only one to give me breakfast is so crazy! I also get so excited when they come home (even when it’s only been 10 minutes since they left). I usually give them gentle hand nibbles and walk between their legs so I can do my circles. It’s important to give each of my people some gentle hand nibbles so nobody feels left out! Sometimes when I’m walking I need to get some cuddles. I’ll sit on my person’s feet so they can’t walk away until I’ve gotten enough pets! I’m also very sneaky when we start to get close to the car, I’ll just slowly walk at an angle further away from the car so we stay at the park longer!
I’m a smart boy who learns tricks quickly. I know sit, stay, paw, spin and down. I do well in the car and barely even notice my nails getting clipped if I’m given a lick mat.
I’m so excited to find the perfect family who will be patient while I get to know them and keep helping me become more confident! Will that be you?
Love, Lloki 💙
Behaviour note: Llokie is insecure and needs a patient home with consistent positive socialization. His ideal home would have another calm dog who can help teach him everything isn’t so scary, and continue force-free training. It may take Llokie multiple meet-and-greets to be comfortable enough to start a trial adoption. He is on Fluoxetine daily.
