Kosmo

Hey everyone! My name is Kosmo. I am a beautiful goofy brown lab and a big cuddle bug who loves to be near his people. I am very gentle when I take treats from you. I love car rides and to sit nice and just sniff out the window (though sometimes I can get a little freaked out if I see a dog).

I sleep soundly throughout the night and do not need to be crated overnight. Sometimes I bark in my sleep (I’ll catch those dream squirrels 🐿️ one day lol!). I am a very smart boy who is incredibly attentive to my handler. I know sit/stay, lie down, shake a paw, fetch (sometimes) and to fix my leash when I get tangled in it on walks.

I love taking my time on our walks and inspecting everything that interests me along the way. I’ve been working on improving my pulling but still it can be hard when I see some tasty grass or something that smells interesting. 

I am working on my manners when I see people I know. I can’t help but pull towards them if I’m on leash outside, or if I’m at home, jump up to see them and even get the zoomies. 

I am such a handsome and happy boy when I feel safe but I do have some anxiety that I have been working on with my foster family that my forever home will need to help me with (with the help of my wonderful trainer!). Other dogs and kids are particularly scary for me and I sometimes feel like I have to protect my safe people from the scary outside world. But luckily I am very food motivated, which makes it much easier to prove to me that you are a friend! I am doing so well with my 1-2-3 pattern game when we see a potential trigger and I am a superstar on focusing on my handler to take their cues on if I am safe or not.

My ideal home would be a home in a quieter area that has experience with anxious dogs and understands that I need to take meeting new people and experiencing new things slowly. I also need to be the only child (both furry and human) so you can have exclusive access to all the love and kisses that I have to give.

I’m a very sweet and affectionate boy when I feel safe and I’m looking forward to finally finding my perfect forever home! Could that be you?!

Behaviour Note: Kosmo takes anti-anxiety meds daily to help him feel more confident as he works on his reactivity. As a condition of adoption, GEARS will provide Kosmo’s new family with free initial behaviour sessions with his trainer and will require commitment to work on an ongoing basis with a force-free trainer.
