Hello! My name is
Klondike
Rescue Story
Klondike came into GEARS’ care as a transfer, and was adopted out but was returned and is now looking for his forever home (again).
My Bio
Hi! My name is Klondike, or at my foster home I’m also known as “handsome mop” or “silly goose”. I’m not sure why though – I thought I was a dog!
I can be a little apprehensive of strangers but it takes very little time for me to warm up. Don’t get me wrong, I love to meet new people! I just need to feel safe. I had a bit of a rough start in life so I just need my space to be respected when I meet someone so I have time to sniff them out. I LOVE treats and am very food motivated, so that definitely helps too. I do have a chicken/poultry allergy, so my food and treats can’t have any chicken ingredients or else I get itchy, and my ears start to bother me.
Daily walks are not needed. I get a bit too stressed being on high alert with all the things going on in this busy world! I do really well with a big yard and lots of mental stimulation from toys and games (stuffed kongs, puzzle toys, etc.) Really I love ANY toy…at my foster home I have lots of toys to choose from so I never get bored!
I’m a very happy boy and love to snuggle (I especially like to be the little spoon), snooze all day, and get lots of belly rubs. I’m a bit clumsy…my zoomies in the yard usually include a few faceplants. I like to play with other dogs but can be a bit awkward so I need the right fit. I have a high prey drive so any other dog would also have to be large. I cannot go to a home with cats, due to my prey drive, and would do best in a home with no kids as well.
My recall is VERY good! The foster mom says it makes her very happy that she never needs to ask twice. I’m also very quiet, the neighbours probably don’t even know I’m there! If I sound like a good fit, apply today!
Behaviour note: Klondike is insecure and needs slow introductions to new people. He does have a history of nipping/biting when approached unexpectedly or startled by a stranger. He should go to an experienced home familiar with force free training. As part of the adoption process a session with his trainer will be required.
