Hello! My name is
Kaiser
Rescue Story
Kaiser came into GEARS care as a surrender and is ready to find his forever home!
My Bio
Hi there! I’m Kaiser and I am looking for my forever home. They tell me I am part Irish wolfhound – but weighing in at a compact 60 lbs what I’m mixed with is a mystery. What is for certain is that I am just a big overgrown puppy. Despite my past, I am a lovable doofus. Personal space? Overrated. Kisses? Why wouldn’t you want them 24/7?! Is another dog getting attention? Make way for my big ol’ head!
I love love love toys, I am known as ‘The Great Toy Destroyer’ so don’t spend too much money on these so called “tough toys” as they are no match for me! I also love playing with my small canine foster brothers – we will wrestle and play tug all day if we could. I would do well in a home with a well socialized, confident dog or in a single dog household!
I like anything with food involved, including working for my breakfast and dinner by chasing kibble up and down the hallway to work off some energy. I will eat pretty much anything, including things I shouldn’t (RIP all of my foster mum’s socks she leaves around), so my new home should make sure I have lots of acceptable things to chew on!
I love running around in the backyard, and getting pets and attention from my humans. l will roll over for belly rubs and make the most adorable sounds to let you know you must never stop the love train! While I do act like a rambunctious puppy sometimes – I do calm down and sleep a lot (on the couch or on your bed if you’ll let me!). If somebody had a nice big backyard or nearby field for me to run around in, I would be the happiest boy around!
While I sleep in my crate at night, I am not a huge fan of it during the day, as it usually means my humans are leaving me. However, when left free roaming with my foster brothers I am not destructive – I just wait by the door for you to come back. I do need some help working through my separation anxiety and my flair for the dramatics when there are fun things happening that I’m not a part of. I could use your help continuing to learn that you aren’t going to leave me forever when you leave a room! Because of this, I would prefer a home where my humans are around more than not.
I can be insecure and fearful when meeting new people (particularly men and people wearing sunglasses) but I warm up very quickly with treats and space. Because I can be reactive to dogs and certain humans on leash – I need an experienced handler that can help me build confidence and make sure I get proper introductions to new things. I prefer calm adults and can get overwhelmed if there is too much commotion, so I need a quieter home without small children.
I have good name recognition and recall, I know how to sit and lie down, my‘ drop it’ and ‘leave it’ is getting better and I know I have to ‘wait’ before going in and out doorways (I used to squish my foster brothers in my excitement to go out). I really am such a good-natured boy who deserves a family who will love me and work with me to be my best self! Do you have room in your house for my goofy handsome clumsy self?!
Behaviour note: Kaiser is insecure in new situations and has separation anxiety. He needs a patient home who will use force-free training only to help him work on his fears.
Medical note: Kaiser has been itchy in his foster home due to unknown mild allergies. He is doing well on Apoquel to manage this and is also on a hypoallergenic diet. His chin has gotten some sores from scratching, so we try to keep it dry and use medicated wipes when required.
