Hello! My name is
Dorie – on hold for applications
Rescue Story
Dorie was part of the ‘D’ litter that was born in GEARS’ care and is now ready to find her furever home!
My Bio
Hi, I’m Dorie! I’m the smallest of my litter and the only one to inherit two blue eyes from our beautiful mama!
My foster mom calls me Dorie the Explorer because I love playing in the backyard and going on trail adventures around our neighbourhood. I walk well on a leash and I come when called, as long as there are no distractions like other dogs and humans (we’re working on that). I am a people-person; I try to say hi to everyone I see, but I’m learning that that’s not always okay. I try not to jump on people, but sometimes I just get too excited!
I will do anything for food! So far, I have learned: “sit”, “down”, “paw”, “stay”, “leave it”, “take it”, “drop it”, “roll over”, “twirl”, “wait” (wait before eating my food), “centre” (sit between your legs), “right” (walk on your right side), and “bedtime” (go in my crate). I am also learning “under” (lay down under your legs while you’re sitting) and walk on the left side.
When we’re not exploring trails, I like to play tug-o-war or fetch inside the house with my foster family. I am a playful little puppy, but I still make time for cuddle sessions. During the day, I snuggle up to my foster mom while she works. She says I make her workday stress go away.
I love napping on cold tile floors, especially by the door. At night, I don’t mind sleeping in my crate as long as I know that you’re near. I also do well outside of my crate. Just hide your shoes if you plan to sleep in (hee hee). I am potty-trained and will let you know when I have to go!
I am the only dog in my foster home, but I have met other dogs, cats and children, and I got along well with all of them. Again, I am still learning not to jump so I would need to be closely supervised around kids. And I would do best with a larger-than-me dog with lots of energy or as the only dog in the home. Is that your home?
Love, Dorie (the Explorer)
