Hello! My name is
Brandi – On hold for applications
Brandi came into GEARS care as a transfer and is ready to find her forever home!
Hi there! My name is Brandi. I am a lean 52 pounds. To start off, I will tell you a bit about myself. I am a very smart and loyal girl. Sometimes I bark when I first meet you but all I really want to do is get closer to see how you smell and then I’m excited to make a new friend! I know my name and come back to you when I am called, even with distractions! I am house trained and ok to be left alone loose.
Everyone I meet says I am VERY smart. I know the commands: sit, shake a paw and lie down. My foster mom says I am well mannered around food and will never try to steal yummy human food. I am not a fan of being in a crate but lucky for you, I don’t destroy things if you leave me out while you are gone. Of course my preference is definitely for you to be home as much as you can…but I know how busy humans can be so I’ve learned to be patient and snooze while you are gone and just have happy dreams about when you’ll come home. I still need to work a bit on not getting overly excited when you get home but I am getting better! I like to give hugs right when you get home because I missed you so much!! Foster mom says not all people like “hugging” and that even though I’m not a very big girl it can still be seen as bad manners. Like I said I’m getting better, because I’ve learned that when she doesn’t want to be hugged foster mom will kind of ignore me and that’s when I know I should just sit patiently and wag my tail until she is ready to say Hi. In the past if I have felt anxious a Thundershirt has made me feel better and calms me immediately, but I haven’t had to use it in a long time!
I am still working on my leash skills, foster mom says I walk so nice but sometimes I try to tell her a bit too noisily about another dog across the street because I think she should know. When I get distracted like this I am very easily redirected and just walk in another direction with foster mom. For fun, my favourite things to do is play! I love playing with people, I like to catch a ball, run around the backyard, go to the off leash with my other dog friends, chew bones, get belly rubs and play tug of war. I enjoy sleeping on beds and furniture if you let me but will respect your wishes if you don’t like it. I know I will fall deeply in love with my humans in my new forever home. Look into my beautiful eyes and tell me I’m the one!
Behaviour Note: Brandi can become over aroused but with consistency and the right environment (calm with a focus on mental enrichment instead of daily walks), this is very easily managed. She is very smart and trainable but she needs to go to a home that lets her be a dog and continue gaining confidence.
She can be jumpy so small children are not ideal. Will chase cats and can be pushy with her dog friends so would need a dog in the home that is patient with this play style
