Compassion. Community. Change.
The Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) was formed in 2013 to help injured, abandoned, unwanted, and homeless animals in the Edmonton area.
GEARS is not a shelter and uses foster homes that provide loving temporary homes with proper care, socialization and training for all of our adoptable dogs and cats.
GEARS is non-profit, charitable organization (822791430RR0001) that is run by a passionate community of volunteers and foster homes.
GEARS offers spay/neuter, vaccination and support for surrounding communities that need assistance with stray dog and feral cat populations.
SUPPORT OUR RESCUES
100% of profits from our store go towards our rescue animals. Some of our foster dogs and cats have expensive medical needs. Visit our Sponsor section to help us provide for their care.
MEET our rescues
Hello, the name is Rolo and my motto is YOLO (you only live once)! And why not enjoy life to the fullest? You want some advice? If you want something in life, go get it! Words to live by, my man. I tell my humans when I like things, and when I don’t – a cat like me wasn’t blessed with a meow like this for nothing!
Hello, I’m Idalee and I’m so happy you want to meet me – don’t let my nervous nature fool you, because I really do want to meet my best friend forever! Sometimes those friends come in different shapes and sizes, and there’s certain shapes and sizes I’m still a little hesitant over.
Hey, I’m Darwin, and I DO believe in survival of the fittest, in case you were wondering. That’s why I spend all my time making sure to stay alert and in tip top shape! I’m always playing with my feline brothers and sisters. Sometimes they complain that I get too rough with them, but they’re just jealous of my strength.
help us save lives
There are many ways you can support GEARS and our mission to provide all animals with loving forever homes, even if you are unable or not ready to adopt.
Share your special skills or training! We are always looking for dedicated individuals to join our team. Areas include event planning, fundraising, marketing, graphic design, medical and more. Have a unique skill or great fundraising idea? We’d love to hear about it! We are always looking for new ways to support our rescue missions.
Give a rescue a loving home while they wait for adoption. We need both temporary and long-term care fosters. GEARS intakes both cats and dogs in varying conditions and ages. We always ensure fosters are paired with the right animal for their situation and capabilities.
We also cover all needed supplies, food and veterinary costs! If you are unable to afford or commit to an adoption, fostering is a great option.
Hint: It’s not you or your dog. A common belief of dog owners struggling to gain their dog’s obedience is that they need to take on the “pack leader” role because their dog is trying to take the “alpha” role.
