  1. Norris and Nia
    Norris and Nia
Age: 7 years old and 6 years old respectively Gender: Female and Male Weight: 7lbs and 15 lbs respectively Breed: Shih-Tzu Energy Level: 4 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Maybe Cat Friendly: Unknown Kid Friendly: Yes Rescue Story: Nia and Norris were surrendered to GEARS to find their forever home. Nia and Norris’s Bio: Hi! We’re the Fosters. I’m Norris and the little black one is Nia, my sister from another mister. We’re what they call a bonded pair. What that really means is that where she goes, I go. I do the talking because she’s pretty quiet. Everyone thinks she’s so sweet, and yeah, I guess she is. I do push her around a little bit, mostly to make sure I’m the one getting your affection.. and boy do I love affection! Nia’s cool with people (kids too) and dogs. I’m a clown with people (kids too), but I have an issue with dogs. Me, I have “Little Dog Syndrome” so I feel the need to make a lot of noise when other dogs are around (not sure about cats, though). Nia just kind of sits there waiting for a lap to open up. Like I said, she’s pretty sweet. Food wise, we’re both grazers, so you gotta love that! Pee wise, we’re pee pad trained, and we’re doing really well with the whole outside thing. We know what to do when we’re out there; we just haven’t wrapped our heads around asking to go out. If we’re let out often enough, we don’t use the pee pad at all. We’re crate trained (we prefer to be in a big crate together), but we’re good with the run of the house on our own, too. Nia means “short and spirited,” and she is both. I was named after Norris, the grumpy busy-body on Coronation Street, and I am both. We sure suit our names, and we’d make a really fun addition to a home where we’re the only fur babies. Can’t wait to meet you!

  1. Sweet Pea
    Sweet Pea
Name: Sweet Pea Date of Birth: April 2017 Gender: Female Breed: Domestic Longhair Energy Level: 4 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Unknown Cat Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Unknown Rescue Story: Sweet Pea and her siblings were taken into care to find their forever homes Sweet Pea's Bio: Hello, I’m Sweet Pea. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and I hope that’s true because I’ve been told my eyes are beautiful! I’m still growing up and figuring out who I am, but I have learned a couple tricks of the trade that make my journey a bit easier. Things that get me more snuggles with my human include: using the litter box and never making a mess, knowing the only place I should sink my claws into is this thing called a “scratching post” (boy, that thing is fun!), and spending a pretty good portion of my day “napping” next to my human. Those fake naps sure do the trick – I dominate in the snuggle department day and night! I do have a playful streak, and I love to chase a speedy toy. I’m also really good at getting balls before they roll under the couch. More than anything, though, I love my sister Sailor. I know we might not go to the same home together, but I’d love to find another feline friend who is just as calm as her, because when my human is busy, cuddling with another adorable ball of fur just like me is the kind of thing dreams are made of. Things I don’t like? There’s something called a “vacuum” that can be pretty scary. I’d love to explore this world and discover more things I love and maybe don’t love. Let’s learn together!

  1. Jersey
Age: 3 years old Gender: Female Weight: 50lbs Energy Level: 10 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Unknown Kid Friendly: Unknown Hi, my name is Jersey. I’m pretty shy and don’t like to talk about myself much, but here goes…. I might be slow to get comfortable with you, but once I am, I’ll be the sweetest girl you’d ever want to meet. My current mama calls me Sweetie Face. That should tell you something. I love the snow and being outside. I’ll lie down in the snow in the yard and watch for squirrels until I’m called to come inside, and then I come running. I listen really well, unless I’m running free.. that's a work in progress! I have a lot of energy, but my moms just can’t keep up with me. I'd love a running partner or someone to at least take me on a couple really good walks.. I really like my exercise, and if I don't get it I'll sing you the song of my people or pace around the house.. sometimes I might even try to take myself on a walk.. whoops! If I see a rabbit….then I get really loud!! In the house, I’m very calm. I love to snuggle on the couch and love trying to be a lap dog. I'm not a big fan of being crated, so I get run of the house when I'm alone. Small kids and big dogs make me nervous, but, just like people, once I’m comfortable, I’m cool. I’ll let other dogs know if I’m not ok with what they’re doing (jumping on my mommy or trying to have their way with me), but it’s just a lot of noise. We can work it out. I guess you really just need to meet me to find out just how awesome I am. My mummy and mama love me very much, but they’re just not physically able to keep up with me actively. Don’t underestimate how much exercise I need…at least one long walk everyday. Skip a day, and I’ll let you know I’m bored by singing, and I’m not very good at singing ;) Well, that’s it. Can’t wait to meet you

  1. Ike
Date of Birth: April 2017 Gender: Male Adult Size: Large Breed: Shepherd Cross Energy: 7 out of 10 Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: Unknown Rescue Story: Ike came into care as part of our Outreach Program. Ike’s Bio: Hi hi hi hi hi!!! My name is Ike! Sometimes it’s Ike-Don’t-Dig! Sometimes it’s Ike-Don’t-Bite!! My favourite is Ike-Get-Off-The-Table! I’m a curious and mischievous pup! I’m a fun-loving guy who likes short walks on the beach, quick dips in the lake, and a good old water bottle to chew on. If I may brag on myself for a moment; I am house and deck trained (I’ll ask to do my business in either spot), I sit on command, I fetch until I’m bored (that’s usually about 3 returns), I know my name, and I know the word NO (as I should; I hear it often enough!) I learned all that in less than 2 weeks. I’m still working on “wait.” That’s a tough one. I love my food, and it’s hard to sit there and wait for someone to say “ok” so I can have at ‘er! My foster sister is really good at that, and I’m watching her and learning. I have a sweet and gentle disposition and I’m crazy smart. I’m pretty high energy when I’m not napping, which is quite a lot at my young age. I run out of gas with no notice and just flop down and sleep for a bit, but I’ll wake up with the zoomies, so get ready to watch my Bambi legs flail about! Now it’s time for my confessional: I do like to dig. Most times I’ll stop when I hear my name Ike-Don’t-Dig! Foster mama is also currently teaching me how to be gentle. I’m learning that pretty quick. My way to play is using my mouth and I’d rather be gentle about it than not at all, right? To my embarrassment, I get car-sick. I love the car and I’m great in it, but sometimes it doesn’t like me quite as much. I should grow out of it though. Oh, and I’m going to be a big boy. My feet are huge, and you know what they say about big feet….big dog! I’m very tall and I will have a coffee-table-clearing tail. I am honestly the happiest puppy in the world. My tail wags when I drink water! I’m just that happy! Well, this was exhausting, so I’m going for a nap now. Hope to meet you soon!

  1. Jamaica
Date of Birth: April 2017 Gender: Female Adult Size: Large Breed: Heeler Cross Energy: 7 out of 10 Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: Yes Rescue Story: Jamaica and her siblings came all the way from Fox Lake to find their forever homes. Jamaica's Bio: I hear you’ve been looking for a new addition to your home! Well, you’ve come to the right place. My name is Jamaica but you can call me Jam! My foster mommy says there are lots of great things you should know about me, so let’s get started. I am a pretty laid back pup, never too grouchy and although sometimes it takes me a little while to warm up, I am very friendly. I really like paying with my siblings, but I am a sensitive soul, so sometimes it upsets me when they leave me behind. I’ve been working on some commands and even at my young age, I already know what “out” and “leave it” means. I am good on my leash, and I am working really hard on my recall. I am really looking forward to learning more new things with both my foster mommy and hopefully you eventually. Sometimes I do have trouble learning in a group setting, you know how it is when you’re young and curious. I would be really happy to spend some one on one time training with you, especially if you had treats. I do have experience around other dogs, and I really like kids. In fact, my foster mommy thinks I would thrive in a home with children already in it. If you think I would be a good fit for your home, please contact my friends at GEARS today so that they can arrange for us to meet.

  1. Moses
Date of Birth: May 2017 Gender: Male Breed: Domestic Shorthair Energy Level: 8 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Rescue Story: Moses and his siblings were found living under someone's steps and are now ready for their forever homes Moses’ Bio: Purr! That’s a sound you can get used to! Allow me to introduce myself – I’m Moses. Much like the biblical character you know, I also like things to part for me. For example, can you please part the curtains? I love to lay in the sunshine! I’ve been working on my summer tan for weeks, and I think I could find a place in your home to continue this hobby. Another thing I like to part – the barbs of a feather! Feather toys are one of my favourite, but I also love balls and will chase just about anything that catches my eye. I’m a very independent boy, and I like to see myself as a leader. I love my kitty siblings, and having a great playmate is always nice, but I also like to rule the household as my own palace –much like the prince my namesake belongs to! I like for my human disciples – let’s face it, I have them wrapped around my little paw – to worship me as much as they can. Giving out little scratches is the best way they can pay tribute to the hard work I’ve done. I reward them with singing songs through purr. It doesn’t take me very long to make myself at home, and I would like to do that somewhere with plenty of open curtains, toys, and cuddle buddies! Does your home have all those things? Interested in meeting me? Fill out an application today!

  1. Darwin
Date of Birth: May 5 2017 Gender: Male Breed: Domestic Shorthair Energy: 6 out of 10 Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: Yes Rescue Story: Darwin and his siblings were born in a metal shop and were sent to GEARS to find their forever homes. Darwin's Bio: Are you looking for a playful companion? One who is always on the go? Then you have come to the right place. My name is Darwin, and I'm looking for my forever home. I have lots of experience with dogs, cats and kids. I'm not a big fan about the sound of a vacuum, it's way to loud for my taste! But there are lots of things I do really like. My favourite toys are wand toys and balls with bells in them...although I also really like to chase the broom around when you're tidying up. My foster mommy thinks you should know that I am constantly in motion. I love to explore and play. I am pretty independent that way, although I will definitely come to you when I'm in need of some affection, I really do like bum scratches. I also really enjoy sleeping in bed with you, provided I am tired and not throwing one of my late night parties with my foster siblings.. they are SO FUN, my foster mommy doesn't think so though. I will also like to tell you how much I am enjoying the fact that you are preparing my breakfast and dinner! I've been thinking that I would really like to go to a home with another kitty in it, or to be adopted with either my brother Diablo or foster brother Padfoot. I think I would be a super fun addition to your home, and if you think so as well, you should contact GEARS today, and they can arrange for us to meet.

  1. Mikey
Date of Birth: May 2017 Gender: Female Breed: Domestic Long Hair Energy Level: 8 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Rescue Story: Mikey and her siblings were found living under someone's steps and are now ready for their forever homes Mikey’s Bio: Hello, I’m Mikey! I’m a bit of a tomboy – I like to pretend to be tough, but in reality, I’m just a bit shy. I don’t like a lot of the things most girls like – I’m not chasing after the boys, I don’t need to be adored, and I’m not one to dance and show off my talents. I take a bit of time for most things instead – I just like to know you’re a true friend before allowing you to enjoy my company. Once I trust you, though, I’m fairly easy to please. I love almost all toys, and my absolutely favourite thing is cuddling in the arms of somebody I feel is trustworthy. I don’t like to be told what to do very much – so if you want me to say hello, it’s likely I’ll stay in hiding until there’s less attention on me. I can be fearful of loud noises, and prefer a calmer environment. When I want to show you my love, you’ll know your pets are dong the trick by the strength of my purr! I absolutely adore my kitty brothers and sisters, and would probably like to go home with one of them, but if that’s not possible, I’ll just need some more time to adjust. I can be very sweet over time, and my foster mommy says my personality is worth the wait! So what do you say? Am I the kitty worth waiting for? Fill out an application today!

  1. Kirby
Date of Birth: April 2017 Gender: Female Estimated Adult Size: Large Breed: Shepherd Cross Energy Level: 5 out of 10 Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Rescue Story: Kirby came to GEARS as a part of our Outreach program Kirby’s Bio: Hi there, I’m Kirby! Thanks for reading my modeling profile. I’ve already had one gig for Rave Rebel in Edmonton, and I’ve been told I have the look for a future career in the world of runways! I like to keep my figure trim, so I learned early on how to be disciplined on a walk. But I’m not all looks – I’ve got a personality to hack it for the tabloids! I’m pretty good at taking instructions, and I’ve learned all the basic tricks, plus shaking a paw, and the little trick of wrapping you around my little paw. If you want me to do something I don’t like, I can hold my own. You think this diva is going to use an OUTDOOR toilet? Hah! I’ll find a much preferred carpet even if I have to hold it. My foster has recently outsmarted me with that one, though – if I’m restricted to hard floors in the house, I’ll go outside where I'm *supposed to* I guess.. This is still a work in progress, but I'll get it one of these days. I’ve also been practicing just in case I make it to broadway, and man, can I sing a tune! Car rides are the best time to match my voice to the radio out on the open road, and hey, I’m an early bird, so it’s not my fault if my power ballads wake you up at 5am. It’s tough out there, trying to get famous, so if I gotta stand up for myself, I will – and I can get loud about it! I am a little sensitive though when my foster mom isn’t pleased with my behaviour. I show a softer side and suck up with some cuddles from time to time, and that seems to keep her happy. To my embarrassment, I sometimes party a little too hard – c’est la vie – and I’ve been known to eat out of the cat litter box….woops! I do love those darn kitties, though...so soft…I’m really looking to kick off my career, so I think I’ll need a lifelong agent. Do you have what it takes? Fill out an application today!
